The B Problem

Mya has a special B.
My mom makes every grandchild 3 blankets when they're born. A crocheted afghan, a receiving blanket (flannel), and a bigger than normal fleece blanket. This is the one Mya chooses to carry around with her everywhere she goes.
This thing is huge - as you can see here, laid next to Lauren's receiving blanket.

Of course she couldn't choose a smaller, less hair attracting, non fleece blanket.
It had to be the biggest one she has.

It goes everywhere with us. The store, the zoo, Nordstrom Rack.
And yes, I realize that I could put my foot down. But I choose to pick my battles.
Recently I've decided that I need to do something about it.
It's just too big and gets so nasty from being dragged everywhere.
I have to wait until she's got her guard down and make a mad dash to the washing machine to wash it, and then make sure she doesn't go in the laundry room and see it.
It's so ridiculous.
I've thought that maybe I could cut it into 4 different pieces (there's room, believe me) and have my mom crochet around the other edges, and then maybe we can rotate between 4 B's. Then I can wash them more often, and they won't be so gross. But she might lose it.
I mean seriously lose it.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

Is the fabric still available? Making a second one that you could rotate would be the easiest. I've had to do that with one of my kids. :)

Shawna had 2 blankets when she was Mya's age. They were somewhat small receiving blanket with little balloons all over them. When I realized this was going to be her "B" of choice I was ecstatic because I knew I'd always have a spare! She was so cute, asking for her balloon, and then just like Mya does, rubbing it on her face to feel the softness of it. One day she came and asked for balloon so I gave it to her, then she said nother balloon? I thought "WHAT?" and she said it again and again until I opened the blanket cupboard and she pointed. I don't know how she found out but from that point on it was always balloon and nother balloon. You just might have 4 of her little snugglies always attached to her IF you cut them up like that! Good Luck!

btw, I definately would not pick this battle, who cares if she carries that blanket with her (other then the fact it gets dirty and gross) If you put your foot down you'd have to deal with a mad and sad Mya and that's no fun either!

you could cut it, but then what would she do while your mom crochets around it? It's a hard one, and I too hate bringing my kids' along. I think when M got to this age I told her she could bring it in the car with us, but it couldn't come in the store. That probably won't work with Mya, she's too smart.

Good Luck, beside looking for the fabric and attempting a new one...not sure. Bennett has a small B that was Tanner's as a baby, he never used it. I have tried to replace it but he refuses to sleep without it. It is NASTY too. There is no way to find the same blanket either, it's 9 years old. I feel for you. Good Luck.
